Hyundai Genesis-Bound V6 Turbo with 420HP

Hyundai Motor America’s CEO, David Zuchowski, recently announced that the firm’s new 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 was not going to make ~380 hp, but closer to the 420 horses of the Tau V8.

The advantage is obviously having the same power output but with less weight and more efficiency; this engine will equip the top of the range next-gen Genesis coupe and current-gen sedan in N-Performance guise.

It will be one of three engines offered for the revised Genesis lineup: the first is a 2.0-liter turbo, the second is the current 3.8-liter atmospheric V6 with the turbo N sitting at the very top.

TheKoreanCarBlog adds that the supposed market launch date for the unit is 2017.

Apparently, the new turbo V6 gets forged and strengthened internals in order to cope with high-output.

Having 420 hp in something that is an evolution of the widely-acclaimed current Genesis coupe has the potential to give some established sports cars a good run for their money – with that kind of power it can go up against a BMW M4, and if Hyundai plays its cards well (and so far it really has, I think, in the most recent phase of its premium-wannabe makeover) actually make a better driver’s car.

Hyundai could listen to all the complaints people had with the M4 and just know to avoid doing the same things on its (quite similar) offering.

Hyundai HND-9 Concept with V6 Turbo

What makes the ninth concept model developed by Hyundai Motor Group’s R&D Center in Namyang, Korea, particularly interesting is that according to the automaker, it's design and technical specifications hint at its "next-generation luxury sports coupe", by which Hyundai means the replacement to the Genessis Coupe.

In a press statement, Hyundai said that "the HND-9 with its dramatic long hood and wheelbase, is a modern reinterpretation of the elegant image of a classic premium sports coupe."

Some of the design highlights seen on the teaser renderings include the butterfly doors (which we doubt would ever make it to production), a wide hexagonal-shaped radiator grille on the aggressive looking nose and the pronounced rear fenders. Overall, we like what we see here, but let's not forget that renderings can be deceiving…

As for the HND-9's powertrain, Hyundai tells us that it's fitted with a 3.3-liter V6 gasoline engine that employs turbocharging and direct injection technologies to deliver a maximum output of 370PS (365hp), paired to an 8-speed auto transmission driving the rear wheels. A similar drivetrain was featured on Kia's 2011 GT sports saloon.

Hyundai said it will release more information on the HND-9 Concept closer to the Seoul Motor Show.

Hyundai Veloster Alpine Concept

The Veloster Alpine is not as racy as Hyundai's own 400HP Veloster 'Velocity' project, with ARK Performance stating that the car was designed to appeal to mountain sports enthusiasts - though, we won't blame you if you don't see this from the teaser image...

“Our Veloster Alpine concept reflects the diverse lifestyle versatility we envisioned in the original Veloster concept,” said Ted Lee, owner of ARK Performance. “This extreme sports coupe concept will appeal to winter sports enthusiasts who love to carve the snow as much as a twisty canyon road.”

The tuner says that the active sports theme is evident inside the car, which was upgraded with materials chosen specifically for their durability in wet environments, including leather that repels mildew and a WeatherTek material commonly found in snow apparel.

On the outside, the Alpine concept sports a custom two-tone, pearl white and blue paint job along with a new body kit, smoked lights, a carbon hood and deck lid, and Rays Gramlight 57Xtreme alloy wheels dressed in Nitto tires.

The Veloster's 1.6-liter turbocharged received a host of upgrades to boost output to 232-horsepower and peak torque to 240 lb.-ft., while the hatch also gets new suspension and brake bits.

2013 Hyundai Sonata

For 2013, the base GLS with the 'Popular Equipment Package' gains standard fog lights and heated front seats, with pricing set at $21,720. The SE model now comes with standard heated front seats and the Limited gets a standard traditional sunroof, while a panoramic sunroof is now part of the Limited Premium Package for 2013.

There are no other changes or upgrades to the Sonata, which continues to be available with two gasoline engines, a 198hp 2.4-liter Theta II GDI (200hp in SE trim with the dual exhaust) and a 274-horsepower 2.0-liter Theta II turbocharged GDI engine, plus a 206 HP hybrid variant.

 In the traditional sense as it sports a rear hatch, the i-oniq is a sporty looking model featuring a low roofline and sleek body work that represents the next evolution of the Korean brand’s ‘fluidic sculpture’ styling language.

Maybe it's just us, but from this angle, the front-end design brings to mind the Nissan 350Z.

The concept model measures 4,400mm long and is powered by an electric motor linked to a small displacement range extending petrol engine driving the rear wheels.

2012 Hyundai i30 Wagon

Set to make its first public outing at next month's 2012 Geneva Auto Salon is the new Hyundai i30 Wagon, which is the second addition to the Korean automaker's C-segment model after the new generation five-door hatchback that was presented at last year's Frankfurt Motor Show.

Before we get into more details, allow us to remind you that in North America, the i30 hatchback will be sold as Elantra GT, while the previous generation i30 Wagon is marketed under the Elantra Touring nameplate.

The new i30 Wagon shares its engines and running gear with the five-door model, but sports a longer body to increase trunk space. More specifically, the Wagon's length is increased by 185mm (7.3-in.) to 4,485mm (176.6-in.) over its five-door counterpart, which also makes it 10mm (0.4-in.) longer than the original i30 wagon.

As a result of the longer body, trunk space has been increased from 378-litres in the hatch to 528-litres in the Wagon. With the rear passenger seats folded down, cargo volume rises more than three-fold, to 1,642-litres.

Hyundai said that like the hatchback model, the i30 Wagon was also designed and engineered "specifically for European customers" at its European R&D Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany.

"The New Generation i30 has been widely praised for its style, quality, and value. Our new wagon offers all of those attributes plus even greater load-carrying capacity," commented Allan Rushforth, Chief Operating Officer of Hyundai Motor Europe.

"We expect it to appeal strongly to those looking for stylish and flexible practicality, especially active families," the Hyundai exec added.

Hyundai's new 2012 i30 wagon will be offered in Europe with the same three petrol engines and three diesel engines as the five-door, with outputs ranging from 88bhp to 133bhp (90PS to 135PS).

The Korean automaker did not say if or when the i30 Wagon will be available in other markets outside of Europe.
