2017 Honda Civic Coupe Type R

Honda's explosive Civic Type R is coming to North America with the Japanese firm saying it will be very close to the European model, which is a five-door hatch. And yes, the rest of the Civic hatchback range is heading our way as well.

Since the next-gen Civic will offer coupe and sedan body styles in North America, it's only natural to ponder if Honda has any plans to drop its 2.0-liter turbocharged VTEC four-pot with more than 300-horses under the hood of those models too.

While we don't have a definitive answer to that yet, we can give you a speculative take on what a Civic Coupe Type R could look like through these renders made for the Civicx forum by Wild Speed.

The study is based on the new Civic Concept shown in New York this month using the production Civic Type R hatchback's aerodynamic and styling upgrades as a reference point.

What do you think about it?

Honda CR-Z Concept

Developed by Honda Performance Division (HPD), the tricked-out CR-Z gains a supercharger along with a new sport exhaust system that boost output of the 1.5-liter petrol engine and IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) package from 122hp and 128 lb-ft to 185hp and 169 lb-ft respectively.

HPD also made enhancements to improve handling and stopping by adding a sport suspension, designing new alloy wheels shod in high performance tires and fitting the hybrid model with a beefier brake system.

Honda CR-V Concept

The fourth generation of the Japanese manufacturer's compact SUV, which has already gone on sale in North America, Japan and other parts of the world, won't be available in Europe until the coming autumn.

Unsurprisingly, it looks identical to its North American twin save for a couple of details, like the mesh surround of the front fog lights and the “fin” antenna instead of the U.S. car’s conventional unit.

In the U.S, the CR-V is powered by a 2.4-liter V-TEC four cylinder gasoline engine producing 185 HP that comes paired to a five-speed auto gearbox and is available in both front- and all-wheel drive versions.

Honda has not yet revealed specs of the European version though we expect the company's new 118-horsepower 1,6-liter turbodiesel to be among the choices offered.

Honda EV-STER

Honda concept that will make its European debut in Geneva will be the Honda EV-STER, an electric roadster, makin to a 21st century version of the early ‘90s Beat Kei-car.

The highlight of the Japanese firm's display will be the Honda NSX Concept that features a mid-mounted V6 and a hybrid all-wheel drive system. The production version will arrive within the next three years.

Also targeted to the European market is Honda's new 1.6-liter turbo diesel engine. The company claims that it is the lightest and most fuel efficient engine in its class, emitting less than 100 g/km of CO2. It will find its way under the hood of several Honda models including the new Civic hatchback.
